Phenolic Casters

Phenolic casters handle continuous operating temperatures up to 300 degrees F, making them one of the most heat-resistant polymer wheel options available. They are commonly used around ovens, proofing cabinets, curing ovens, and other heated equipment. For temperatures above 300 degrees F, metal (steel or cast iron) casters are required.

Phenolic casters in our catalog range from 200 to 2,500 lbs per caster. Their rigid, high-density construction provides strong compressive strength relative to cost. For loads exceeding 2,500 lbs per caster, nylon or metal wheels are recommended.

Phenolic casters are not recommended for wet, washdown, or high-humidity environments. Phenolic resin absorbs moisture over time, which leads to swelling, softening, and potential delamination of the wheel. For wet or sanitary environments, nylon or polypropylene casters maintain their integrity and are the preferred alternatives.

Phenolic casters are more economical and tolerate higher sustained dry heat (up to 300 degrees F vs. 250 degrees F for nylon). Nylon casters offer superior moisture resistance, a wider overall temperature range (down to -40 degrees F), higher maximum load capacities, and better chemical resistance. Choose phenolic for dry heat applications on a budget; choose nylon when moisture, cold, or chemical exposure is a factor.
