Swivel Lock Casters

It locks the caster swivel rotation so it holds a fixed direction, usually straight ahead. This lets you push a cart in a straight line without it wandering or crabbing. Release the lock and the caster swivels freely again for tight turns.

Not quite. A brake stops the wheel from rolling. A swivel lock stops the caster from rotating but still allows it to roll. Many casters here are total-lock models that do both at once. If you need the cart to stay completely still, look for a total-lock or wheel brake.

A common setup is two swivel locks on one end and two standard swivel casters on the other. Lock the two and the cart tracks straight. Unlock them for full maneuverability. Four swivel locks give maximum control but less agility.

These range from about 700 to 3,000 lbs per caster depending on wheel size and material. Divide your total load across the casters and add a safety margin. For the heaviest loads, choose the larger metal or phenolic wheel options.
