Pick this 8-inch Empire 170 swivel with a swivel lock when the heaviest wet-area cart needs to steer, then track straight down a long run.

A swivel lock holds the swivel from rotating so the caster runs straight when engaged, then releases to maneuver again. It locks the swivel, not the wheel, so the heaviest cart keeps rolling while it is held to a line on a long tow. The wheel is glass-filled polypropylene, a stiff reinforced plastic rated -20 to 250°F that resists washdown chemicals and corrosion. It is hard with no cushioning, rolls cleanly on smooth floors, and can mark, and at 8 inches it carries up to 1,400 pounds on a roller bearing for manual pushing. The swivel turns on a kingpinless welded raceway, bolts on a 4 by 4-1/2-inch top plate at a 9-1/2-inch mount height, and is zinc plated.
