Reach for this 8-inch Empire 170 swivel with combined face brake and swivel lock and a precision ball bearing when an easy-steering heavy cart has to park dead still.
This is the total-lock build: the face brake stops the wheel and the swivel lock holds the swivel, so the heaviest loaded cart cannot roll or rotate when set. The wheel is solid elastomer, a tough rubber-like compound that absorbs shock and runs quietly without going flat, grey and non-marking on finished floors. The precision ball bearing rolls and swivels with a lighter touch than a roller for easy hand repositioning, and at 8 inches the caster carries up to 1,200 pounds and takes -40 to 230°F. The swivel turns on a kingpinless welded raceway with no central pin to loosen, bolts on a 4 by 4-1/2-inch top plate at a 9-1/2-inch mount height, and is zinc plated.
