Set this 8-inch Empire 170 swivel with a swivel lock on the heaviest tow-line or platform truck that needs to switch between maneuvering and straight-line travel.

A swivel lock holds the swivel from rotating so the caster tracks dead straight when engaged, then releases to swivel and steer again. It does not stop the wheel from rolling, it stops the swivel from turning, which keeps a heavy towed cart from wandering down a line. At 8 inches the large wheel clears the biggest obstacles, and the orange round-profile polyurethane tread is non-marking and easy-rolling on a lightweight aluminum core. The kingpinless design carries shock without a central kingpin to fail. It runs on a precision ball bearing, bolts on a 4 by 4-1/2-inch top plate, and holds from -40 to 180°F.
