A tapped foot this small earns its place on equipment that gets reconfigured: when a light fixture moves to a frame with a different leg depth, you run in a new 1/4-20 rod rather than buy a whole new mount. It also saves a bent stud from condemning the pad, which on a part this small is most of the cost. The 1-inch base still tilts on its swivel seat to seat flat on an uneven bench or floor.
