The fine 28-pitch thread is the reason to choose this over a coarser anti-vibration foot: a precision instrument or a small motor that must hold true takes more turns per inch, so you can dial out the last bit of tilt without overshooting. Under that, the bonded elastomer pad absorbs the high-frequency shake before it reaches the bench or the floor, which is what keeps a vibrating unit from walking and from telegraphing noise into nearby instruments. Coarse leveling plus hard mounting would undo both.
