The 2-1/2-inch tread puts a little less rubber on the floor than a 3-inch face, so it rolls with marginally less drag while still carrying a heavy load on the hard phenolic, which resists shop oils and holds to 180°F. The 10-inch diameter clears joints and debris on a long run, and the roller bearing suits the slow heavy travel these wheels are built for. Confirm the rig is sized for a 10-inch wheel before building.
