The 4-inch diameter is the practical middle: enough to clear a cord or a door sill, short enough to keep a loaded deck low and stable, and the ball bearing keeps that roll easy when the cart is pushed back and forth all day. The soft Colson Performa rubber on a polypropylene core stays quiet on tile and sealed concrete and leaves no marks, which is why it is the default replacement wheel on institutional utility carts.
