Choose this 5-inch Empire 170 phenolic swivel with a swivel lock when a mid-weight tow-line cart works in cold or chemical areas and needs to run straight on command.

A swivel lock holds the swivel from rotating so the caster tracks straight when engaged, then releases to maneuver again, keeping a towed cart from wandering down a line. It locks the swivel, not the wheel, so the cart keeps rolling when held. The wheel is phenolic, a hard resin-bonded composite that takes -65 to 250°F and resists oils, solvents, and water with low rolling resistance on smooth floors. It is hard with no cushioning, so it transmits shock, can mark, and is best on smooth hard surfaces. At 5 inches it carries up to 1,000 pounds on a roller bearing, turns on a kingpinless welded raceway, bolts on a 4 by 4-1/2-inch top plate at a 6-1/2-inch mount height, and is zinc plated.
