On bare concrete or steel, no. On finished or coated floors, possibly. Cast iron wheels are hard and can score, mark, or crack softer surfaces under load. If you need to protect a finished floor, choose polyurethane or rubber instead. Cast iron is best for shop floors, foundries, and industrial concrete.

Capacity depends on wheel diameter and caster construction, but our cast iron casters range from about 700 lbs to 2,800 lbs per caster. Divide your total load across all four casters and add a safety margin. A common rule is to size for three casters carrying the full load, since floors are rarely perfectly level.

Yes. Cast iron tolerates far higher temperatures than rubber or polyurethane, which soften or break down with heat. This makes cast iron a common choice near ovens, kilns, and bake operations. For sustained high-heat use, confirm the bearing and any seals are also rated for the temperature.

Cast iron wheels are molded and offer excellent capacity and wear resistance at a lower cost. Forged or ductile steel wheels are tougher and more impact-resistant for extreme shock loads. For most heavy industrial rolling, cast iron delivers the capacity and durability you need at a better price.

Cast iron wheels carry more weight per inch of diameter than nearly any other material and shrug off hazards that destroy rubber or polyurethane. They roll easily on hard, flat floors and tolerate heat far better than polymer wheels. The trade-off is noise and floor marking: cast iron is loud on concrete and can score softer flooring, so it is best reserved for shop floors, not finished surfaces.
