This 9-drawer steel cabinet runs a wider 36 by 24 inch footprint, trading some depth for a broader drawer that lays long tools, gauges, and flat stock out flat instead of forcing them in at an angle.

Drawer width decides what actually fits: a long level, a straightedge, or a set of long-reach tools that will not lie flat in a narrow cabinet drops straight into a 36-inch-wide drawer with room to organize around it.
