About This Washer - P10034

This is the heavy retaining washer, a 1-inch bore by 1-15/16 inch washer that caps the bearing on a large caster wheel running a 1-inch axle and sets the wheel's clearance against the yoke leg.

On a big wheel the washer carries the side thrust that a small one never sees, so it has to be the matching heavy size: drop in an undersized washer and the bearing creeps along the axle, the wheel rubs the fork, and the caster starts to wander. This one seats the large bearing, blocks it from walking out, and keeps grit out of the race on a heavy-duty rig. Replace it whenever you pull a 1-inch-axle wheel, since a bent or worn washer no longer holds the spacing the bearing needs to run true.
