Total Lock Brake Casters

A total lock brake locks both the wheel and the swivel at the same time. The wheel cannot roll and the caster cannot pivot, so the equipment is completely immobilized. It is the most secure caster lock and is engaged and released with a foot lever.

A regular wheel brake only stops the wheel from rolling, leaving the swivel free, so a parked cart can still rotate if bumped. Total lock holds both the wheel and the swivel, preventing both rolling and spinning. For workstations and medical equipment, total lock is the safer choice.

Two total lock casters on one end is common for carts that need a secure park but still get moved often. For stationary workstations or equipment that must not move at all, use four total lock casters so every corner is fixed.

These range from about 176 to 1,250 lbs per caster depending on wheel size and material. Divide your total load across the casters and add a safety margin. For heavier loads, choose the larger phenolic or polyurethane wheel options in this collection.
