ESD-safe cleanroom casters use electrically conductive or static-dissipative wheel materials that provide a continuous ground path from the cart frame through the wheel to the floor. This prevents electrostatic charge buildup that could damage sensitive electronic components. ESD-safe casters typically maintain a resistance of 10^4 to 10^9 ohms. They should be used in conjunction with ESD-rated flooring for effective static dissipation.

Stainless steel (typically 316L grade) is required because it does not corrode, flake, or shed particles the way carbon steel, zinc-plated steel, or painted frames do. Corrosion is a major source of particle generation in humid or chemically exposed environments. Stainless steel also withstands the aggressive cleaning chemicals and wipe-down protocols used in cleanroom maintenance without degrading.

Yes. Standard caster lubricants can outgas volatile organic compounds that contaminate cleanroom environments. Cleanroom casters should use low-outgassing, cleanroom-rated lubricants or be specified with sealed bearings that contain the lubricant and prevent migration. In the most stringent environments (ISO Class 5 and below), dry-lubricated or self-lubricating bearing options may be required.
