About This Washer - P10074

This metal retaining washer sits between the wheel bearing and the caster yoke leg, a 3/4-inch bore by 1-3/16 inch washer that caps the bearing, spaces the wheel, and keeps grit out of the race.

Small as it is, the retaining washer does real work: it holds the bearing seated so it cannot creep out along the axle, sets the running clearance between the wheel and the yoke, and shields the bearing mouth from the dirt and string that would otherwise pack the rollers. Leave it out on a rebuild and the wheel walks on the axle, rubs the yoke, and throws off the caster's tracking. Replace it whenever you pull a wheel, since a bent or worn washer no longer holds its spacing.
