The 16-foot ratchet strap is the mid-length tie-down, enough webbing to reach over a taller machine or a wider pallet and still leave plenty to thread the ratchet and draw the load tight.
Length is what decides whether a strap can do the job: come up short on a big load and you cannot get a wrap over the top, and there is nothing left to ratchet. The 16-foot run clears a full pallet stack or a crated machine and gives the buckle room to pull real tension and lock it. That locked tension is the difference from a rope, which slacks off as the truck flexes and lets the load walk. Throw it over the load, feed the webbing through the ratchet, and crank until the strap sings.
