3-inch Wheels

Individual 3 inch wheels handle between 150 and 600 lbs, depending on material and tread width. On a four-wheel cart, that translates to total capacities ranging from 600 to 2,400 lbs. Always apply a safety factor of at least 25% above the calculated per-wheel load.

If your equipment operates primarily on smooth, flat floors with minimal thresholds and the current 3 inch wheels are performing adequately, stay with 3 inch replacements. If you are experiencing excessive rolling resistance, frequent flat spots, or difficulty crossing thresholds and floor transitions, stepping up to 4 inch wheels may be beneficial. Also confirm that a larger wheel will not raise your equipment height above usable limits.
