Caster Maintenance 101: Tips to Extend the Life of Your Casters

Protect Your Investment with a Few Easy Steps

Casters are often the most overlooked part of your equipment—until they stop working. A little routine maintenance can go a long way in preventing breakdowns, preserving floors, and keeping your team safe.

1. Clean Regularly
Dirt, string, and debris can wrap around axles and bearings, causing drag and damage. Clean wheels and swivels with a damp cloth monthly—or more often in dirty environments.

2. Inspect for Wear
Look for:

  • Flat spots on wheels

  • Loose fasteners

  • Squeaking or grinding sounds

  • Wobble in swivel joints

3. Lubricate Bearings
Use grease or silicone lubricant on bearings and swivel joints every 3–6 months, depending on usage. Avoid over-lubrication in dusty settings.

4. Check Mounting Hardware
Loose bolts? Stripped sockets? Tighten or replace as needed to prevent sudden detachment.
