This caster pad sits between a 4 by 4-1/2 inch top-plate caster and the surface it mounts to, spreading the bolt load across the deck and giving the plate a clean, flat seat on wood, sheet metal, or composite.
Bolting a steel top plate straight to a thin or soft deck concentrates the load on four bolt holes, and over time the plate works loose, dimples the surface, or splits a wood frame. The pad backs the plate with a full-face bearing surface, so the load and the road shock spread out instead of pulling at the fasteners. It also squares a caster on an uneven or ribbed deck. Match the pad to the 4 by 4-1/2 plate footprint so the bolt pattern lines up and the plate seats fully.
